SAN ANGELO To celebrate Gov. Greg Abbott s decision to end the mask mandate and open businesses back to full occupancy, the San Angelo Republican Women s organization hosted a mask burning event at the VFW on Wednesday, March 10. Along with food, entertainment and live music, the event featured a ceremonial mask burning in a barrel just outside the entrance to the VFW, 125 S. Browning St. Masks were collected at the door, though only a few were actually set on fire due to restrictions from the San Angelo Fire Department. San Angelo Republican Women president Kellye Duncan said the event was a way to celebrate the day masks are no longer required, despite criticism of Abbott s move from health care experts, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medical advisor to President Biden. ....
