Coast rail corridor study to host virtual public meeting on May 18

–What could the future of rail transportation look like on the Central Coast? Over the last year, the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) and Coast Rail Coordinating Council (CRCC) have engaged and sought input from various partner agencies, community representatives, and the general public to identify viable options for future rail travel on the Central Coast. The Coast Rail Corridor Study examined opportunities for expanding intercity rail and bus service and connectivity between Goleta and Salinas as well as the feasibility of implementing regional-commuter rail service between Paso Robles and Santa Maria.
As a result of valuable stakeholder input and technical analysis, SLOCOG has developed draft plans for the two analyses, which look at planned growth and land use, ridership modeling, service operations, and equipment needs, potential governance, and funding options. ....

Arroyo Grande City Council Member Jimmy Paulding says he is running for San Luis Obispo County District 4 Supervisor.
Paulding ran for the seat back in June of 2018 but lost to Lynn Compton by just 60 votes.
Paulding says he is running again because the South County is suffering from a lack of leadership and creativity. We need someone with a strong vision to guide our postpandemic recovery, to rebuild our economy with lots of good paying jobs, and make sure no one is left out along the way. ....

Arroyo Grande City Councilman announces bid for supervisor

–Arroyo Grande City Councilman and local attorney Jimmy Paulding is running for District 4 County Supervisor once again in an effort to “restore good governance to the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors.”
“As a public servant, I deeply value the responsibility of representing everybody, whether they vote for me or not,” Paulding said. “Valuing the perspectives of all who care to engage in a civil and respectful conversation is everything. If you don’t value that, you shouldn’t hold public office.”
Paulding is running for county supervisor after having narrowly lost to the current incumbent by only 60 votes out of more than 18,000 votes cast in June of 2018. Jimmy’s bid for supervisor drew countywide interest, leading the Paulding campaign to break local fundraising records for a challenger at that time, raising nearly $300,000. That November, he was elected to the Arroyo Grande City Council as the top vote recipient in a five-person race. ....

Construction starting on traffic improvement project at busy Nipomo intersection

NIPOMO, Calif. A construction project in Nipomo to improve the traffic flow at the busy Tefft Street/Highway 101 interchange is scheduled to kick off on Monday.
The project will relieve congestion and improve pedestrian access at the intersection, which is heavily impacted throughout out the day, especially during commute times.

County parks awarded $18.25 million grant for the Bob Jones Trail

–The California Transportation Commission recently approved funding recommendations for Cycle 5 of the Active Transportation Program, including $18.25 million for the Bob Jones Trail extension project.
The Bob Jones “City to Sea” Trail extension project will construct 4.5-miles of multi-use trail, separated from motor vehicles, and will connect the existing trail in Avila to the Octagon Barn at the South end of San Luis Obispo. This trail fills an essential link in the region’s north-south bicycle network and constructs facilities suitable for people of all ages and abilities, providing an option to safely bicycle or walk to work, school, and other critical services and access to nature and agricultural areas for recreation and exercise.
