Bravo to the Jamestown High School and Jamestown Middle School Chess Club for placing second in the team division at the North Dakota State Scholastic Chess Tournament. The high school and middle school teams each earned the honor, and freshman Dovud Sulaymonov earned runner-up status in the high school individual division, winning four of five chess matches. ....
DES MOINES, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team saw its season come to a close on Thursday night as they fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-17) to Park University (MO). The Jimmies combined to just hit .048 as a team as the Pirates delivered a .280 hitting percentage in the match to outlast Jamestown. Freshman Derek Owens led UJ in kills with eight and was the only Jimmie to hit above .200 for the match. Samuel Jackman finished with seven kills for Jamestown, and freshman Derek Correa had 25 assists during three sets. Caylor Cox led UJ in total digs with seven, and the GPAC Libero of the Year Braden Neumann had six. Park advances into the semifinals for the NAIA Men’s Championship. ....

(NewsDakota.com) – #4 Jamestown opened up the NAIA Men’s Volleyball Championship pool play on Tuesday evening with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-21) win over Georgetown College (KY). Five Jimmies tallied at least seven kills as Caylor Cox led the way with 10 kills and a .409 attack percentage. Austin Jacob led Jamestown in attack percentage by hitting .875 with seven kills and three blocks. The GPAC Player of the Year Derek Owens finished with seven kills and hit .667 for the match. Jamestown as a team recorded a .309 attack percentage for the match en route to their 21st win of the season. ....

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, more than 75 percent of the state is in extreme drought. Recent moisture has been welcome but more is needed. Bravo to Annie Nabwe, a junior on the Jamestown High School girls track team, who broke JHS records last week. Nabwe broke the 100-meter dash record with a time of 12.52 seconds, beating Meghan Orr’s 2016 record by 0.01 seconds. She also broke the outdoor shot put record, throwing 44 feet, 10 inches, breaking Jill Schlenker’s 2007 length by more than 5 feet. Nabwe, her sister, Yolanda (100-meter dash) and Meghan Ford (1,600 meters and 3,200 meters) are the latest JHS girls track team members to qualify for the 2021 Class A State Track and Field Meet. ....
