It’s time to let hope abound.
I can almost hear your question. “Really, Dr. Jones?” To be sure, hope has often been in short supply over the past 18 months. Americans have been struggling with COVID-19, racial injustice, mental health and economic uncertainties, as well as political polarization and distrust.
Many of these issues have been challenging for a much longer time than 2020 and 2021, but the overlapping intersections have intensified loneliness, anxiety, bitterness, anger, even despair.
It is difficult to sustain any optimism, even with the advent of vaccines and a gradual return to some pre-pandemic routines. We aren’t returning to normal, nor is there yet even a “new normal.” As Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors has said, we are looking at a “new abnormal” – and that is disorienting. ....

New troopers assigned to Versailles District

VERSAILLES – Thirty-six probationary troopers recently graduated from the 80th Indiana State Police Academy. This week, two of those troopers reported for duty at the ISP-Versailles District.
Probationary troopers now begin their next phase of instruction, a three-month field training period working alongside veteran troopers.
Field training aims to give troopers a practical application to the training they received throughout the formal academy.
Upon completing field training, the troopers will be assigned a state police patrol vehicle and begin solo patrol.
These troopers have already completed over 1,200 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques and hands-on, scenario-based training at the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. ....
