CoxHealth recently named Alan Butler as System Director of Public Safety and Security, overseeing all public safety efforts at CoxHealths six hospitals and more than 80 clinics.
Butler brings more than 30 years of experience in health care security. He comes to CoxHealth eager to return to his roots: working on the front lines.
After consulting from outside hospitals for 12 years, I wanted to get back inside health care and improve things on the ground, he said. I am a people person and I wanted to get back into the hospital, where I can be with people and do what I do best. ....

A significant portion of Utah’s history in collegiate athletics is about to increase with Southern Utah University’s recent announcement that it’s joining the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). On January 14, 2021, SUU President Scott L Wyatt stood in the NFL Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium with the presidents of Stephen F. Austin University, Sam Houston University, Lamar University, and Abilene Christian University to announce their decision to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) effective July 1, 2022. At first, Waylon didn’t look like much.
He was one of about a dozen Suffolk lambs purchased by a Bellaire High School agriculture teacher in 1995 and was randomly assigned to Andra Collins-Johnson when she was a restless junior. A career in animal husbandry or otherwise working in agriculture had never crossed her mind, and it seemed like a foreign concept for her in Third Ward.
Raising Waylon and spending long hours at Bellaire’s barn, however, awoke something in the now 40-year-old.
“The thing that stood out most to me is that I felt peace,” Collins-Johnson said. “There was a lot of space and pasture at the barn, even though there were freeways around it. I would stand out there and just look I would look and think about what to do with the rest of my life. It gave me structure and made me feel safe.” ....
