Athletes from Dunwoody High, Peachtree Middle place in state Polo tournament

DUNWOODY, Ga. â Nine Dunwoody High School and Peachtree Middle School athletes competed in the Georgia High School Water Polo Association State Tournaments recently. They were members of the Chamblee High School Water Polo Team, which provides competition opportunities to athletes at Chamblee and Dunwoody high schools and middle schools.
In the Intermediate division, Dunwoody High freshmen Colin Pivonka, Ryan Halligan, Junior Harris Marks, and Senior Marco Hoyos took the state title, defeating North Springs High School in the final 9-7, and Collins Hill in the semifinal 20-5.
The tournament win capped an undefeated season for the team.
In the Developmental division Dunwoody High School freshmen Sam Myers, Andres Urtusastegui, and Peachtree Middle students Andrew Halligan, Nicholas Halligan and Jackson Defenbaugh earned 2nd place, falling to the Wildcats Water Polo in the tournament final. ....

Opinion: Memories of Kathryne Carpenter, born 1909

Kathryne Margaret Carpenter rode the Roswell Railroad to shop in Atlanta, traveled in a Model T, worked at Sears on Ponce de Leon Avenue and graduated from Chamblee High School in 1928. Thanks to an interview conducted by Lenore G. Whitley for the Dunwoody Crier in 1995, her memories are preserved. Carpenter was 85 years old and lived until 2004. âIâve only lived on this spot of ground,â Carpenter shared with Whitley. The family home was on the southeast corner of Tilly Mill Road and Mount Vernon Road. Carpenterâs parents were Effie Spruill Carpenter and Ambrey Carpenter Sr. She also lived with her grandmother Amanda Carpenter and older sister Lucy. Her younger brother, Ambrey Jr., was born six years later. All three children were born at home and deliver ....
