Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kimberly A. Potter was charged Wednesday with second-degree manslaughter in the death of Daunte Wright, joining just a handful of officers who have faced charges after shooting someone they said they intended to shock with a Taser.
Potter, a 26-year veteran of the department who resigned Tuesday, was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County jail shortly after noon. Bodycam footage from the shooting Sunday shows her shouting Taser! three times before killing Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, with a single shot from her Glock 9-millimeter handgun. Police officials blamed the death on human error. ....

Daunte Wright shooting: Ex-Minnesota police officer Kim Potter appears in court for first time

Kim Potter, the former Brooklyn Center police officer charged with second-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright, made her first court appearance Thursday.
Potter appeared remotely with her defense attorney, Earl Gray. She wore a flannel, button-down shirt and only spoke when prompted by the judge. Potter is next expected to appear in person at 1:30 p.m. local time May 17 in front of Hennepin County Judge Regina Chu.
During the hearing, Potter was visible only briefly when her attorney pointed his video camera in her direction. Potter was also told she is not allowed to possess use or transport firearms, ammunitions or explosives during the duration of the case, Hennepin County District Court Judge Paul R. Scoggin said during the brief appearance. ....

At a brief hearing Thursday before District Court Judge Paul Scoggin, Kimberly A. Potter made her first court appearance on a charge of second-degree manslaughter in the killing on Sunday of Daunte Wright.
The initial appearance held over a Zoom call lasted about five minutes, during which time Scoggin confirmed basic information and set a date of May 17 for the next hearing before District Court Judge Regina Chu. That hearing will be held in person. ....

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. The officer involved in the shooting death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright has called it quits.
In her resignation letter to her bosses, Kim Potter wrote I have loved every minute of being a police officer and went on to write it s in the best interest of the community, the department and fellow officers that I resign.
Not only did Potter resign but according to Champlin Police Chief Ty Schmidt, she and her family relocated out of Minnesota. The Brooklyn Center community got to see the incident from police body cam video released right away. ....
