Starting this spring, the city of Winooski will welcome its first equity director. On May 10, local equity coach Yasamin Gordon will take on the role of working for the state s most diverse city. Through the position, Gordon will be tasked with connecting marginalized community members to services and engaging them in the local government process, according to a city news release from last September announcing the position. Gordon has worked as the lead diversity, equity, and inclusion coach for the Champlain Valley School District, as well as a planning room director for Shelburne Community School. In both capacities, she has worked to implement a district-wide equity coaching model. ....

For better or worse, a new building proposed along Malletts Bay Avenue would obscure a motorist s view of the center but would greatly enliven the neighborhood, city planners say. Blueprints for Butternut Station, as the new development is called, show that a three-story structure and an underground garage would replace a hefty portion of the existing parking lot. Homelessness in the time of Covid-19 is costly, complicated and cruel. Baltimore has recognized that congregate settings are inherently unsafe by limiting indoor gatherings to no more than 10 people. And because of the particular vulnerability of the participants, the city has closed senior centers. Certainly, people experiencing homelessness are similarly vulnerable and congregate facilities ought to be – and remain – closed. Since last spring, the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services has placed 500 homeless folks in motels and hotels, using CARES Act and FEMA funds. Currently, it appears the city has sufficient funds to put people up safely through at least the end of March. ....
Thu, 12/17/2020 - 4:13pm tim Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Community Foundation announced today that in partnership with many of its generous fundholders $169,711.94 in Spark Connecting Community grants has been awarded to 64 nonprofit organizations for local projects in communities across the state, including some nonprofits that serve residents in multiple counties. Of the total funding awarded, $77,950 was made possible by Giving Together, a program at the Community Foundation that shares grant proposals with fundholders and donors to give them the opportunity to co-fund projects. Spark Connecting Community is a competitive grant program at the Foundation that puts building and nurturing community front and center. The Community Foundation aims to support the work happening throughout Vermont’s 251 towns that builds social capital.
