Concerned about the safety of horses and equestrians in Byrne Preserve, above, the Los Altos Hills City Council is considering an ordinance banning remote-controlled vehicles like drones from the preserve unless the city manager’s office approves first.
When Los Altos Hills City Council members give a second look to a proposed ordinance banning drones and other remote-powered model vehicles in town open spaces, they’ll likely have to weigh conflicting recommendations from advisory committees.
Council members at their April 15 meeting unanimously agreed to introduce an amendment to the town municipal code that would prohibit model vehicles from Byrne Preserve, and they directed the Open Space and the Parks and Recreation committees to consider further limiting acceptable locations. The Open Space Committee has already expressed unanimous support for that idea. Last week, ....

The 26.9-mile “Los Altos Hills to the Sea Marathon Distance Hike,” which meanders over the Santa Cruz Mountains and terminates at a Half Moon Bay beach.
Throughout the pandemic, venturing outside has proven the stalwart respite for the involuntarily cloistered. While cold, rainy winter weather has somewhat dampened nature’s appeal in recent weeks, Los Altos Hills Parks and Recreation Committee and town staff members are already preparing for sunshine with a catalog of socially distanced activities.
“We’re really just looking for ways that are all COVID-compliant but still kind of feel like a community,” said Sarah Robustelli, community services supervisor, as she described one of the offerings, an 8-foot-wide pop-up photo frame, during the Jan. 28 Parks and Recreation meeting. ....
