Letter of opposition to the application to remove a reef at Villa

Opposition to the Application by Raffique Dunbar to remove a reef at Villa
I write to express my strong objection to the Application published in the newspapers on July 2 2021, submitted by Mr Raffique Dunbar to remove a reef at Greathead Bay, Villa, supported by a document entitled “EIA, Prepared on behalf of SVRE Holdings Inc. for the La Vue Boutique Hotel and Beach Club Beach Restoration, “by Krystle Francis, Environmental Engineer.
While the advertisement stated that the relevant reef is located at Greathead Bay, all of the information on the application supports  the fact that the relevant reef  that the said Mr Dunbar wishes to remove is located in Indian Bay, directly in front of the building that was  formerly  called  the Grand View Grill and extending eastward  along that said beach. Accordingly, in the balance of this letter I shall refer to the beach as the Indian Bay beach and the reef as the Indian Bay Reef. In fact I have been advised that a corre ....

Dutch Caribbean Conservationist Tadzio Bervoets Joins Rhino Conservation Project in South Africa
Published: 06 July 2021
Johannesburg: - Dutch Caribbean Conservationist Tadzio Bervoets recently participated in a rhinoceros conservation project in the Waterberg region of South Africa. Bervoets, invited as a part of an exchange program for conservation practitioners that are involved with the protection of highly endangered species, participated in a ten-day conservation and anti-poaching program with the Dabchick Conservancy in the Limpopo district.
“Due to my work with endangered species in the Caribbean, specifically with Sharks and Sea Turtles, I have had the opportunity to spend time on the frontline of species conservation globally. The pressures experienced by sharks and rhinos are similar; the sale of rhino horn and shark fin to the Asian market is both driven by greed and has elements of the criminal underworld involved. It was interesting to ....

Call for legal protection for Basking Sharks in Ireland

Call for legal protection for Basking Sharks in Ireland
Published 1 hour ago
Irish Basking Shark Project are calling for people to support the recent Wildlife (Amendment No.1) Bill 2021 to amend Section 23 of the Wildlife Act to include the Basking Shark, in the Fifth Schedule of the Act. This will give Basking Sharks legal protection in Irish waters.
Why is this important?
Basking sharks are endangered in the Northeast Atlantic and global population estimates indicate that the west and northern Irish seaboard are part of the single most internationally important coastal region for this species. Basking sharks occupy inshore and offshore areas year-round in Irish territorial waters. Ireland and our coastal communities have historically benefited from basking shark fisheries and today we have a duty to provide protection for this highly mobile species when they occupy Irish territorial waters. Recent research indicated that the Irish public supports the protection ....
