© Ryosuke Takeuchi, Hikaru Miyoshi / SHUEISHA, Moriarty Project 2020
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
What They Say:
“The White Knight of London Act 1”
Adam Whiteley, a young MP in the House of Commons working toward an equitable society, garners public support as a “White Knight.” Milverton is hired by those opposed to Whiteley to oust him. William takes interest in Whiteley, and decides to test him.

Moriarty has changed its modus operandi several times throughout its run already, but that doesn’t change how unusual an episode this is at this stage. There’s no sign of Sherlock Holmes or any of his supporters, James Bonde or the rest of the Moriarty crew, and relatively little of even the Moriarty brothers or Milverton. This episode dives fully into a storyline we’ve never heard of, starring a characte ....

Yuukoku no Moriarty Episode #18 Anime Review

When the episode opens with a recap of Charles Augustus Milverton observing William and adding his name to a certain list, it may seem somewhat random to quickly cut to a flashback of William and Louis as orphans taking on a slimy nobleman for the majority of the episode. The connection does become apparent in the final scene of the episode, but the introduction could’ve been more organic if staged differently. Perhaps some piece of that final scene could’ve come first, or at least some other moment of the “present day” that would warrant reminiscing on the good old days of small children nearly murdering noblemen in civil court. ....

Episode 16 - Moriarty the Patriot - Anime News Network

The Tempest certainly can be said to apply to
Moriarty the Patriot. Not only is having William speak it a good indication of his education (whether it came from his stolen identity as a Moriarty or from his street child days in the abandoned library), it also espouses his philosophy of English society at the end of the 19th century. Hell must be empty indeed if the aristocracy is to be likened to devils, for they run rampant in a world he s bound and determined to change.
There s certainly a delicious irony to him speaking the line while his red eyes gleam out from beneath his black hood, which must make him look like a true devil to the men he s confronting, but it s also a nice nod to an element of Ripperology, the notorious “From Hell” letter. While there s some debate (as with all things Jack the Ripper) as to whether the letter is authentic or not, it has become inextricably associated with the murderer as part of the lore. And if, as Shakespeare said, Hell is in ....

Yuukoku no Moriarty Episode #16 Anime Review

It’s about to get very anime in here.
What They Say:
“The Phantom of Whitechapel Act 2”
A series of murders is being carried out by someone claiming to be Jack the Ripper. In response, a vigilante group of the town’s poor confronts Scotland Yard while William and the real Jack scramble to uncover the true culprit’s aims and foil their plans.

As we open the episode with Sherlock’s introduction to the case at hand, one that he has been absent from previously, it’s a very comical demonstration from a seemingly earnest Lestrade to cover the most gruesome material the series has dealt with so far. Sherlock has the reaction you’d expect, but despite this implication that he’d become a major player in this episode, his role is merely to bookend it while Team Moriarty absolutely dominat ....
