CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Five people were wounded and two of them were in critical condition after a shooting Wednesday afternoon near downtown Charleston, authorities said.
Investigators were still trying to figure out where the shooting started and who was involved, but Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds said he was certain it involved gangs.
“We have a violent crime problem in our nation. We have a violent crime problem in our state. And we have a violent crime problem in our city,” Reynolds said at a news conference.
This shooting and a number of other ones recently in Charleston have involved “gangs, guns and things like retaliation” the chief said.
