Maryland school districts expect positive shift in student enrollment in fall

Many Maryland school districts are already planning for fall enrollment, but some are questioning whether students who opted for private or home-schooling during the COVID-19 pandemic will return to public schools.
School officials across the region said they remain upbeat as they continue to see signs of a shift back to the public school classroom.
The enrollment tide is starting to turn in Baltimore County. The district began the school year down almost 4,000 students, but officials said the numbers are starting to pick up.
We would anticipate that a lot of those folks would again return to their neighborhood schools, the places where they feel comfortable, the places where their friends are going, Baltimore County Public Schools spokesman Charlie Herndon said. ....
