After suspects fired shots, wrecked a pickup truck and fled the area the Chaffee County Combined Tactical Team has been activated and is conducting a large scale search. At about 5:39 a.m. Tuesday, a Salida resident observed two male subjects loading lumber onto a trailer being pulled by a white full size truck. While the unidentified person was observing, the two men got into the vehicle and left the scene. The observer called for police response and then began following the subjects at a safe distance. As officers with Salida Police Department were responding the truck left the city limits, traveling west to U.S. 285. ....

Sam Trujillo, retired Colorado State Patrol trooper, said the Salida Tip-a-Cop program raised $3,803 Saturday, more money than it had ever raised before in one day. Tip-a-Cop is an annual event at Patio Pancake Place at which personnel from local police and sheriff departments and Colorado State Patrol act as servers and bussers for a day to raise money for Colorado Special Olympics. âItâs fun not just for the officers, but for the public as well,â Trujillo said. âItâs an informal way to reach out to the public, talk about things and tell stories.â Trujillo said he really wanted to thank Salida Police Chief Russ Johnson and his officers. ....
