UNIONDALE, N.Y., June 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR) has awarded nearly $50,000 in special 2021 scholarships to college-bound high school seniors from across New York.
The Cristin Ann Bambino Scholarship is awarded to special education students for outstanding efforts in overcoming challenges to complete high school. The Paul Jensen Scholarship is presented to students who have demonstrated inspired design and building skills, and the Joseph Goncalves Student Humanitarian Scholarship is given to seniors involved in causes promoting social justice, equal opportunity and relief of human suffering. All three series of grants are awarded annually. ....

Salmon River Central names 2021 valedictorian, salutatorian

FORT COVINGTON Salmon River Central School has announced their leaders of the Class of 2021. Myranda O. Collette has been named valedictorian and Emily E. Healy has been named salutatorian.
Valedictorian Myranda Collette
Myranda Collette, valedictorian, has been a member of the Salmon River Central School community for the past 13 years. She finishes her high school career with a weighted GPA of 107.58. Myranda has committed to Clarkson University in the fall, majoring in Mathematical Economics. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, Myranda plans to continue her education.
Myranda is the daughter of Gary and Lisa Collette. She also has two brothers, Andrew and Evan, and one sister, Madison Collette, of Fort Covington. ....

LAKE OZONIA Larry Drake passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 5, 2021.
Following his wishes, his family will honor his life privately.
Larry was born on April 7, 1954, son of the late Lyndon and Barbara (Hazen) Drake. He graduated from Salmon River High School and Canton ATC. He married Annie Jobin at their home in Moira on July 22, 1989, with family and friends in attendance.
Larry worked at and later managed the family Agway and was also a partner in the family florist business in Moira.
Larry loved gardening and welding. His talent, creativity, and craftsmanship were well known. His unique style will live on through his many creations especially at the camps at Lake Ozonia. His “need for speed” was evident, as he enjoyed boating and snowmobiling. A man with a generous heart and gentle spirit, Larry loved the north country and especially Lake Ozonia. ....
