Vail Police/Special to the Daily New parking restrictions to address overcrowding and safety concerns take effect June 2 at popular trailheads in East Vail. With those restrictions in place, the town of Vail and the White River National Forest encourage hikers to “Bus It to Hike It.” The parking area for the Booth Lake Trailhead in Vail will be closed for the summer season. Parking at the Pitkin and Bighorn trailheads will be limited to three hours with no overnight parking. Visitors to the Gore/Deluge Trailhead will see designated parking spaces and delineated no parking areas to address conflicts between vehicles and bicyclists on Vail Pass. ....

Town of Vail/special to the Daily The Vail Town Council at its May 4 meeting will consider an ordinance that would increase the penalties for parking violations around the Booth Lake trailhead in East Vail. The action item, Ordinance No. 9, is listed as 7.2 on the virtual meeting agenda which begins at 6 p.m. There will be opportunities for public comment. The ordinance is part of an effort to address neighborhood impacts, including speeding and parking violations, that have been caused by the trail’s popularity. A pilot program will begin June 2 in which the 18-space trailhead parking lot at the top of Booth Falls Road will be closed to all vehicles. Hikers will be redirected to use the East Vail bus to access the trailhead among other options. ....

Martinson Site staff MADISON – David James “Dave” Martinson, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at the Marshfield Medical Center in northern Wisconsin, with his loving family at his side. David exited this world following a memorable weekend at his favorite place, the family cottage in Minocqua, Wis., which is exactly what he would have wanted. David was born on Dec. 12, 1935, in Madison, Wis., to Bertha and Amos Martinson. A lifelong resident of Madison, David attended Madison East High School, where he met his future wife, Sally Ann (Schluter). After graduating in 1953, David worked at Gardner Bakery to support his growing family. He and Sally welcomed Pam (Parker) into the world in 1956 and Lisa (Seversin) in 1959. David later went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1962. He was a long-time fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and held season football ....
