Homicide suspect charged in second fatal shooting - Roswell Daily Record

A man already being held at the Chaves County Detention Center on criminal counts in connection with one deadly shooting was charged Monday in a second death.
The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office on Monday served Jeffrey Contreras, 25, with an arrest warrant on criminal counts related to the January fatal shooting of Johnny Pacheco Jr., 22, of Roswell, Undersheriff Charles Yslas said Monday.
In Pacheco’s death, Contreras faces one count each of first-degree murder, willful and deliberate; kidnapping, first degree, no intent to commit sexual offense; robbery; tampering with evidence; and aggravated assault, deadly weapon, according to court records. ....

Man charged with involuntary manslaughter in death of his sister

A man who is believed to have unintentionally shot his sister to death Sunday evening while at her home has been charged in her death.

Jack C. Salcido, 33, of Roswell faces one criminal count each of involuntary manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm after police obtained an arrest warrant for him Monday on those charges.
According to a press release from the Roswell Police Department, officers responded Sunday at about 9 p.m. to the shooting that happened in the zero block of B Street in south Roswell.
Police believe that Salcido accidentally shot Crystal Smith, 35, in the neck while the two were seated at the dining room table in her house. ....

A man captured Monday by the Roswell Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service was served Tuesday with an arrest warrant in a recent fatal shooting.

The warrant charges Jeffrey Contreras, 25, of Roswell with one count each of first-degree murder, willful and deliberate; tampering with evidence; and felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting death of Anthony Vasquez, 57, of Roswell, according to a press release issued Wednesday by RPD.
Court Records for New Mexico’s 5th Judicial District Court state that a motion for pre-trial detention and concurrent preliminary hearing in the case are scheduled for Feb. 25. ....

A California man wanted by federal law enforcement after escaping from the Roswell Police Department in December has been arrested.

The U.S. Marshals Eastern District of California branch, with assistance from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol, located and arrested Austin Cyrus Medford, 23, at his parents’ home in Riverdale, California Wednesday without incident, said Juan Miranda, public information officer for the U.S. Marshals Service branch in southern New Mexico.
Miranda said the apprehension of Medford was a collaborative effort between the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, the Roswell Police Department, the Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force and U.S. Marshals office in Roswell. He said information was found and developed by law enforcement in New Mexico and shared with U.S. Marshals in California. ....

A man and woman accused of kidnapping a woman Sunday were arrested and charged on several criminal counts.

Edmund Montes, 37, of Roswell, and Delfida Marie Pineda, also known as Marie Pineda, 43, of Roswell, were served with arrest warrants returned to Chaves County Magistrate Court Monday, according to electronic court records.
Montes faces one count each of kidnapping, no intent to commit sexual offense; aggravated assault of a household member; battery of a household member and bribery of a witness. Pineda is charged with kidnapping, no intent to commit sexual offense; and battery. ....
