An important factor contributing to the widening electricity demand-supply gap has been the inordinate delay in either the commencement or completion of rehabilitation projects related to various medium and small hydropower plants planned by the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). These projects, if undertaken and completed timely, could directly address the prevalent energy crisis, also resulting in reducing the average generation cost of the energy mix.

Small hydropower projects to be set up in 21 districts - Newspaper

CHITRAL: Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Power Taj Mohammad Khan has said that an amount of Rs2 billion has been earmarked for setting up small hydropower projects in 21 districts.
Addressing a gathering in Kalash valley Bumburate after inaugurating a mini hydropower project, he said that the project of promoting small hydropower was being extended to 21 districts keeping in view the success of its first phase in 11 districts of the province.
He said that development of the hydropower potential was a part of ‘clean and green Pakistan’ vision envisaged by Prime Minister Imran Khan. It was not only environment-friendly but also cheaper, he added. ....

ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday ordered import of 200,000 tonnes of sugar to build strategic reserves and increased the prices of wheat flour, ghee and sugar by up to 53pc for sale through the Utility Stores Corporation (USC).
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), which was presided over by Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin and was attended by only two other members of the 14-member ECC.
The ECC also allowed import of 200,000 bales of cotton to meet requirements of the textile industry and made about Rs116 billion non-cash book adjustment in various public sector power producers to contain circular debt. ....
