The federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday approved a substantial hike on prices of essential commodities such as wheat flour, ghee and sugar, notably allowing the subsidized Utility Stores Corporation to sell them at rates closer to market values.
In a statement issued after the meeting, which was led by Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin and attended by one two of the committee’s 14 members, the ECC said it had increased the prices of the edibles on the recommendation of the Ministry of Industries and Production. It said that the price of ghee at the subsidized Utility Stores was increasing from Rs. 170/kg to Rs. 260/kg, a 53 percent ....

CHITRAL: Former provincial minister Salim Khan on Tuesday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had abandoned the ongoing development projects let alone initiating mega schemes in the Upper Chitral and Lower Chitral districts.
“Our both the districts are still faced with backwardness despite the eight years of the PTI government in the province,” he told a press conference here.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) local activists Engr Fazal Rabi Jan, Alamzeb advocate, Muhammad Hakim advocate, Qazi Faisal and others were also present.
Salim Khan, who is also PPP provincial deputy secretary information, said that work on the Garam Chashma and Bamburet roads had been stopped while the two districts of Chitral were excluded from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. ....

Nepra asks Discos to refund 26 paisa/unit in July bills

ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers, who paid higher rates in May 2021, will be getting refunds of Rs 0.2644/unit in their July bills after the power regulator maintained in its latest decision that the power generation cost was low during the month under review while the consumers were charged high rates.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) took the decision in a public hearing on June 29. And on Monday, it formally notified it.
It is to be noted that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had filed a petition with the Nepra, seeking a reduction of Rs 0.1255/unit on account of fuel adjustment. It claimed that the actual pool fuel cost for the month of May 2021 was Rs 5.8067/unit, against the reference fuel cost component of Rs 5.9322/unit. However, the regulator has allowed extra release of Rs 0.2644 per unit to the consumers. ....
