ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin on Thursday tasked the newly-formed economic advisory council (EAC) to devise short, medium and long-term plans with respective timelines to optimise the financial and economic policies.
Presiding over the first session of the EAC after its re-constitution at the finance division, Tarin formulated sub-groups and assigned areas for further deliberation and directed to firm-up proposals after seeking input from all concerned. The minister emphasised short, medium and long-term plans with respective timelines for an effective way forward. The finance minister emphasised the importance of evolving consensus on macro-economic stabilisation measures and reform agenda for an inclusive and sustained economic growth after taking all stakeholders on board. ....

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Ishrat Husain underscored need of a strategy that prioritises identification of high impact regulations that will have visible benefits for the business community.
Husain was addressing the fifth steering committee meeting on Pakistan Regulatory Modernization Initiative (PRMI) to review progress on implementation of regulatory reforms by provinces and review of regulatory guillotine activity.
Adviser to the PM on Commerce and Investment expressed satisfaction with performance of stakeholders and recommended a reservoir of implemented reforms should be formulated.

ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday approved hiring of private firms for forensic audit of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other state-owned enterprises to find out causes of their losses and fix responsibilities.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the cabinet committee on state-owned enterprises, presided over Minister for Finance, Revenue, Industries and Production Hammad Azhar. Minister for Privatisation Mian Soomro, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Commerce Razak Dawood, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Institutional Reforms and Austerity Ishrat Hussain and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue Waqar Masood also participated in the meeting. Questions raised over NAPHDA-private sector tie-up

Authority chairman briefs ECC on plan to build housing units with publicprivate partnership

Policymakers have raised questions over the partnership between Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority (Naphda) and the private sector to select the developers for building housing units.
Naphda does not follow Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules which set guidelines for awarding procurement contracts.
In a recent meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), the Naphda chairman briefed committee members on the public-private partnership for building housing units.
He revealed that the Naphda policy board, in its meeting held on February 3, 2021, had recommended the submission of the case for review and approval by the ECC. ....
