Lion Industries bets on hot rolled coil revival for turnaround

LION Industries Corp Bhd, controlled by tycoon Tan Sri William Cheng Heng Jem, is banking on a return to hot rolled coil (HRC) manufacturing to turn its fortunes around. The group, one of the country’s oldest steel makers, has been loss-making for the past two financial years amid intense competition and slowing market growth.
Last December, the group announced plans to restart production of HRC in the second quarter of 2021 with a production capacity of 2.5 million to 3 million tonnes a year.
“Our plans to restart the HRC plant is part of the group’s turnaround plans, which we expect to contribute positively to the results,” says a Lion Industries spokesman in an email response to The Edge. ....

KLCI stays muted as market breadth negative in line with regional fall

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 26): The main index of Bursa Malaysia remained muted in the mid-morning, while market breadth turned negative in line with lower regional markets.
At 10am, the FBM KLCI was up 0.30 points at 1,581.84. The index earlier slipped to a low of 1,578.92.
Market breadth was negative with 711 losers and 271 gainers, while 349 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 2.66 billion shares valued at RM1.43 billion.
The gainers included D&O Green Technologies Bhd, Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd (HLFG), UEM Edgenta Bhd, Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, Industronics Bhd and MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd.
The actively traded stocks included XOX Bhd, Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd, ManagePay Systems Bhd, Industonics, Lion Industries Corp Bhd and MSM Malaysia. ....

Newsbreak: Policy revisions a boon for steel industry

THE steel industry has reason to cheer this year as the government is making revisions to the iron and steel policy that are expected to benefit local players across the value chain in the long run.
The revisions come after a long wait by industry players who had submitted a White Paper in April 2019 at the request of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 2018.
The White Paper was intended to form the basis for a holistic iron and steel policy for developing a more resilient, competitive and sustainable industry.
In a letter sighted by The Edge that was issued by MITI to the industry in December, the ministry outlined six revisions to the current policy: ....

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12): The main index of Bursa Malaysia remained lacklustre today following the reinstatement of the movement control order (MCO) in several states.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today also consented to the proclamation of emergency until Aug 1, 2021 to contain Covid-19.
