Sitka authorities investigate small fire that damaged playground equipment

Authorities are investigating a possible arson that slightly damaged a Sitka playground on Saturday night (7-31-21). But the Crescent Harbor playground remains open to the public while officials investigate.
Dispatchers received a call from a bystander shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday that a piece of plastic equipment had caught fire. A Sitka police officer who was on scene reportedly extinguished the small fire shortly before firefighters arrived at Crescent Harbor.

The board of Sitka’s industrial park has determined that a grassroots proposal for a new marine haulout facility is worth pursuing further but wants to hammer out a few details before sending the deal to the assembly.

MARQUETTE / MUNISING, MI – Barbara G. Carberry, age 94, of Marquette and Munising, died Saturday morning, April 24, 2021, at Medilodge in Munising, after living a long and independent, productive, and satisfying life.
Born in Munising on June 8, 1926, to Elson and Madeline (Weir) Carberry. Barbara Carberry graduated in the Class of 1944 at the Wm. G. Mather High School. She completed Registered Nurse training from the St. Joseph School of Nursing, in Bloomington, Illinois, in 1949. After working two years at the Munising Hospital, she entered into the U.S. Army Nurse Corps at as Second Lieutenant in 1951. Her career in the Army included completing basic training at San Antonio and serving three years in Hawaii. Barbara was honorably discharged from the Army as a First Lieutenant.
