PARIS: France´s love affair with cinema threatens to be an overwhelming experience next week when theatres finally reopen the scheduling nightmare of a massive backlog of 400 films.
On the outskirts of Paris, cinema owner Stephane Goudet is poring over the long list of options, trying to figure out how to give as many films as possible their shot at success.
It´s like a giant Tetris! he told AFP.
Some had just been released and were scoring well when the second lockdown in October stopped them in their tracks. ....

'Eesti matus' to air in cinemas as first Estonian feature film

The comedy Estonian Funeral , ( Eesti matus ) based on Andrus Kivirähk s play of the same name and directed by Rene Vilbre, will air in cinemas as the first Estonian film on June 4, instead of the planned August 20.
We made a big decision and we re taking the risk of bringing the film to cinemas at the beginning of June. The audience has been waiting for the film for a long time and we can t let the audience down, one of the producers, Tanel Tatter, said.
He added that he hopes that the film will bring people back to the cinemas. We will organize a wide cinema distribution for the film to reach each corner of the state. Eesti matus is a film for the nation and it will provide entertainment for a wide audience, Tatter said. ....

Netflix has allowed its Zack Snyder movie, Army of the Dead, to be screened across the US in the largest release so far of any film from the streamer, as at least 200 cinemas associated with Cinemark Theatres will start showing the flick from May 14.
A week later, the film will be streamed on Netflix.
Other chains of theatres, including Landmark Theatres and Alamo Drafthouse, will screen the film as well. In the largest theatrical release yet for any Netflix film, the movie, Army of the Dead, will be presented on about 600 screens across the US. ....

SINGAPORE, May 5 (The Straits Times/ANN): Cinemas in Singapore will further limit seat capacities to comply with the new Covid-19 measures announced this week.
A check by The Straits Times with cinema operators found that they will limit seating to a maximum of 100 per hall. This allows for screenings to be run without the need for pre-event testing, which kicks in at screenings with more than 100 attendees, up to a maximum of 250 attendees.
A spokesman for Golden Village Multiplex said under existing social distancing rules, in force since last year, halls are already running at 50 per cent capacity. ....
