THE family of a teenager who suffered a fatal reaction after eating a burger at a restaurant say they have not been awarded compensation for their suffering. Owen Carey from Crowborough collapsed and died after eating grilled chicken coated in buttermilk at a Byron restaurant at the O2 Arena in Greenwich in April 2017. The teenager, who had been out celebrating his 18th birthday, had told staff he was allergic to dairy but was not told buttermilk was included in the dish. An inquest in 2019 heard that Owen had been misled into thinking there were no allergens in his meal. Owen s family said they received a letter from Byron s chief executive with an apology, but have not been awarded damages or specific compensation. ....
Fried chicken brand Mother Clucker has been acquired by Byron owner Famously Proper. The deal will see the “unique identity and secret recipe” of Mother Clucker remain the same as it expands under the new ownership, but founders Ross Curnow and Brittney Bean are set to leave the business. The pair founded Mother Clucker in a converted US Army ambulance in 2013 and now operate sites in Clerkenwell and Stanstead Airport alongside numerous street food pitches in London and a number of Deliveroo Editions sites. The irreverently positioned brand specialises in tea brined, buttermilk soaked, twice battered fried chicken and was in the first wave of higher quality chicken players. ....
Bedknobs and Broomsticks Casting director Jo Hawes has put a casting call out for the two child roles in the upcoming musical tour of Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Hawes has asked that those interested must be London commutable (within a 45-mile radius) and be available for a six-month contract plus rehearsal time. All diversities are welcome, with those applying must be strong singers and sensitive actors . She is looking for two roles – that of Paul (the youngest of the three children) who can be a maximum of 4 6 as well as that of Carrie, described as being on the cusp of growing up . Within the courts and tribunals service there has been a plethora of guidance since March 2020 which continues to be disseminated. This article attempts to draw together the current position in respect of the guidance on remote hearings, the need for proportionality and the impact both on the lawyers and the clients that we represent of the remote world. As the dark winter nights gives way to the light at the end of the tunnel, in many ways the struggle has only just begun as the Family Court attempts to make its way through the backlog caused by the pandemic. The tension between ensuring a fair system and one which remains fit for purpose will require all family justice users to adapt in the months and years ahead. ....
Lorry drivers heading to EU face ham sandwich ban Lisa O Carroll Brexit correspondent Lorry drivers will be banned from taking a ham and cheese sandwich or other meat and dairy products from the UK into the EU from 1 January, even if it is just to eat while driving, UK government officials have said. Personal imports of certain products of animal origin will be prohibited from 11pm on 31 December, a ban which will also apply to tourists travelling to the EU. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs advised transport representatives of the ban this week and gave the specific example in its updated guidance of an ordinary sandwich. ....
