Communications Student Honored for Community Service

Christian Sutton, who graduates with a bachelor’s degree in communications-public relations, takes his responsibilities as a volunteer ambassador for Sierra Donor Services very seriously. After all, the work of organ procurement organizations is what saved his life. When Sutton was 2 years old, he received a heart transplant.
For his dedication to this nonprofit, Sutton received the Community Engagement Medal from CSUF’s Center for Internships and Community Engagement.
“I have a personal connection to the work I do,” he said. “I was given the gift of life 23 years ago and I don’t take one day for granted.” ....

Nathan Streeter was many things to many people.
He was the chosen child of Steve and Nancy Streeter, who adopted him the year after his birth.
He was a graduate of Davis High School (Class of 2008) who became a filmmaker and a member of the county transportation district’s citizens advisory committee.
He was also an extrovert in an introvert’s body, his mother says, making friends everywhere he went despite being unable to communicate verbally thanks to a brain injury suffered in utero. ....

For Placerville resident Deanna Santana, it was her son Scott Santana’s fatal car accident in 2011 that inspired her to become a living organ donor, giving a kidney to a stranger in need.
