Trigg Reports Seven COVID Cases; Stays 'Orange' For Third Straight Day

Trigg County reported seven new COVID-19 cases Tuesday and stayed out of the ‘red’ on the state’s incidence rate map for a third straight day.
However, three of the seven cases reported involved people 21 and under. For the month, 17 of the 56 cases have been people 21 and under. In January, only 14-percent of the county’s cases were 21 and under.
The number of cases in the 60 and older age group makes up 25-percent of the February cases in Trigg County, down from 30-percent in January.
According to the state’s COVID data website, there is only one active case in Trigg County’s three long-term facilities. However, Better Senior Living has not reported any cases in the past year despite confirming an outbreak last year. ....

Barkley Plantation Second Trigg Facility Fighting COVID Outbreak

Barkley Plantation Plantation Assisted Living Community is the second Trigg County long term care facility to deal with a recent outbreak of COVID-19.
Kentucky’s COVID-19 reporting website said Wednesday that 19 residents and five staff members were positive for the coronavirus. It’s the first time since the pandemic began that a resident of the facility has tested positive. One other staff member has previously recovered from the virus.
Barkley Plantation owner Clara Beth Hyde said the residents are being monitored by the staff and anyone with severe symptoms is being transferred to the hospital for further medical care.

She said continued testing of residents and staff that have previously tested negative for the virus will continue into next month. High Trigg COVID Numbers Point To Possible Congregate Outbreak

Trigg County’s COVID-19 case total increased by 34 Tuesday, one of the largest single-day increases for the county since the pandemic began, and the numbers indicate a possible outbreak in a congregate setting.
The Pennyrile District Health Department provided the age on 31 of the 34 cases reported. All but four were over the age of 60 and 10 were 86 and older. Prior to Tuesday, there had only been two confirmed cases in the 86 and older age group in Trigg County this month. The 17 cases in the 60 to 85 age group were five more than any other day reported this month.
Two of the three personal care homes in Trigg County appear on the state’s COVID-19 reporting website and have a combined one active case between them involving a staff member. The third facility, Better Senior Living in Cadiz, has not reported a single case of COVID-19 to the state since long term care numbers for facilities were released in the spring. ....

Better Senior Living Center Working Through COVID Outbreak

Trigg County’s largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases can be traced to an outbreak at a long-term care facility.
Officials with Better Senior Living on Shelby Street in Cadiz confirmed an outbreak of the virus at their facility. Administrator Maria Estep said the first case was confirmed on November 30 and likely came from a resident that transferred in from another part of the state.
