Special Olympics Indiana team preps for new season ahead of Tokyo games

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The Tokyo Olympics aren’t the only event sports lovers are waiting for.
The
Special Olympics Indiana team is already gearing up for its next summer Olympics in Orlando. It’s a program for people with intellectual disabilities to compete on a local and state level.
Fifty athletes from Special Olympics Indiana will represent the state.
This year’s Special Olympic summer games wrapped up last month. Team members say getting back in the game after the pandemic provides a new dose of motivation.
“Let me win but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt” is the motto the Special Olympic Indiana team says before every competition, and it’s something they believe. ....

DeKalb County Special Olympics athletes selected for 2022 USA Games

Two DeKalb County Special Olympics athletes have been selected as members of Team Indiana Track and Field and will compete at the 2022 USA Games in Orlando, Florida.
Ashlyn Heller and Romano Ritenour were selected based on their outstanding performance at the Summer Games in Terre Haute on June 12, where they both captured first place in all of their events. Heller is one of six females and Ritenour is one of six males from Indiana who make up the 12-member track and field team.
âSpecial Olympics has been a 53-year global movement to provide opportunity in sports, as well as inclusion in all aspects of community life, for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics has truly changed the world,â said Special Olympics DeKalb County coordinator Connie Allen. ....

Seymour police invite you to 'Cover the Cruiser'

SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Police Department (SPD) is partnering with Special Olympics Indiana for “Cover the Cruiser” this Sunday, May 23, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The fundraiser is taking place at the Taco Bell at Tipton Street and Burkart Boulevard.
While you are out and about on Sunday, SPD asks you to stop by and say hello to officer Toborg. Just look for the police car with the flashing lights.
For every donation made to the Special Olympics of Indiana, the donor can write his or her name or a special message on a donation card and help decorate officer Toborg’s cruiser. ....
