At a time when the world is becoming ever more committed to the fight against climate change, it is beyond disappointing to see technologies that could play a £20 million role in the fight massively under-utilised and marginalised. The example of the ambitious £20m Queens Quay development on the site of the old John Brown Shipyard makes this point. The water-source driven district heating network, which serves Queens’ Quay, draws on the ambient heat contained in the waters of the Clyde, and generates vastly less carbon emissions than would be the case if these buildings were heated through gas-generated heat: 80% less. ....

A VULNERABLE pensioner has received a home visit to get her first Covid vaccination – after the Reporter stepped in to take up her case.
Rhona Young, 91, contacted us after days went by and she hadn’t received an invitation to go to an appointment.
Rhona, who has been active in the Old Kilpatrick community as chair of Old Kilpatrick Community Council, is partially disabled and in recent years has lost her sight.
She said: “It was made clear that the over 80s and the vulnerable have been invited to get their vaccine, but it wasn’t the case for me. ....

Hundreds of Clydebank’s most vulnerable residents have now been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Nearly all Bankies aged 75 and over, along with those who are shielding, will have had their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine within the next week, said GPs on the front line.
Scotland originally had a target of one million people getting the jab by the end of January, but the total failed to crack 600,000.
Dr Alan McDevitt, of Green Medical Practice in the Clydebank Health Centre, said the vaccination programme was moving “at pace”. ....

Coronavirus: Clydebank community vaccines begin this week

Covid-19 vaccinations in GP and community settings in Clydebank have begun - starting with people aged 80 and over.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s vaccination team began administering the Oxford AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine in the area on Monday, January 11.
With age the greatest risk factor for serious illness and death from Covid-19, the first priority group for the vaccine is residents in a care home for older adults and their carers, people aged 80 or over, and frontline health and social care workers.
The eligible group will receive a letter or phone call from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde inviting them to attend a local centre for their vaccination and advising them where and when they can get it. ....
