"Bloody Clearmont" needed a jail in 1922 – Sheridan Media

On May 14, 1984, the Old Clearmont Jail was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Ann Arndt, former Clearmont teacher, was instrumental in making sure that the old jail was included in the Registry.
The town of Clearmont was founded in 1892 with the coming of the railroad. In 1893, work was begun on a rail line running from Clearmont to the Town of Sheridan.
In this early period of Clearmont’s history, much of the business in the valley was cattle ranching. The great numbers of cowboys who descended on Clearmont every Saturday night, sometimes engaging in gun play, gave the town the reputation of “Bloody Clearmont.” In addition to the cowboys, railroad workers would sometimes get drunk and add to the general confusion. Water Tower, Vacate of Land Topics for Clearmont Town Council – Sheridan Media


The Clearmont Town Council met for a regular meeting at the Clearmont Town Hall, February 15, 2021 at 6 p.m.
All members, Councilman Poppenga, Councilwoman Switzer, Councilman Buhr, and Councilwoman Betz, as well as Town Clerk/Treasurer Amy Vineyard, and Maintenance John Kiser were present. One guest was in attendance, Deputy Lamb.
Mayor Rohrer reported on the water tank project money. He will check with the Engineering Associates and see where they are at with the town projects. Next week Mayor Rohrer said he will be meeting with Visionary and Ray Frady about the access road to the water tower and the Visionary tower. ....

Clearmont Town Council – Sheridan Media


Land that the fire department wanted to purchase.
Clearmont Town Council met Monday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. at Town Hall with all council members present. Two guests, Stephen Dow from The Sheridan Press, and Cynthia Vannoy from Sheridan Media, were present as well.
       Mayor Rohrer called the meeting to order and lead the pledge of allegiance.  He also thanked town clerk Amy Vineyard for decorating the town hall for Christmas, and provided a Christmas snack supper in lieu of the annual Christmas dinner, which was canceled due to the Covid-19 virus restrictions.
       Discussion centered around the possible sale of land to the Clearmont Volunteer Fire Department.  The Fire Department wanted to purchase the land, which is the on the corner of  New York Ave and Front Street, where the old locker plant building used to stand.  According to Amy Vineyard, town clerk, the Fire Department talked of making that land into a parking lot to go with the shop they pr ....
