'We've been discovered:' Housing projects continue to pop up in Silverthorne

New housing units have been popping up all around Silverthorne for a few years now, and even more are on the drawing board.
Lina Lesmes, Silverthorne planning manager, said there are a lot of housing projects in the works right now, but that it has been this way for about three years as Silverthorne is growing in popularity.
“It’s just really exciting to see all the interest in Silverthorne and the town really transform,” Lesmes said. “I would love it if we could see more workforce housing development.”
Lesmes said the market is delivering more and more market-rate housing developments, while the town is spearheading workforce housing projects. The town was able to start the Smith Ranch workforce housing development thanks to voter-approved funding. ....

Silverthorne, Summit County plan for new child care facility

As the Silverthorne community continues to grow, so does the need for child care on the northern end of Summit County.
Silverthorne and Summit County officials recognized the need for additional child care and partnered to build a new center at the Smith Ranch Neighborhood.
Silverthorne Town Manager Ryan Hyland said having a child care facility by Smith Ranch has been a goal since the start of the project. Hyland said the project is in its planning and building programming phase, working with architects and developers on what the facility would look like. Based on the current timeline, construction would begin in spring 2022 with the building set to open in January 2023. ....

Backcountry Family Dental expanding to new location with employee housing

The Silverthorne Town Council unanimously approved preliminary site plans for Backcountry Family Dental’s new office Wednesday, June 23, which will include four upstairs apartments intended for employees of the business.
Dr. Erin Sain and her husband, Patrick Giberson, grew up in Summit County and have run their dental office since 2011. The couple started planning a move from their location on Tanglewood Lane to a new office in 2018, mostly due to struggles maintaining a full staff as a result of housing.
The apartments on the second floor of the new building will be subsidized rental units, which Sain intends to rent out to her employees. ....

Silverthorne brings up forest land swaps, development in nearby towns as possibilities for workforce housing

Units are under construction at the Smith Ranch neighborhood May 31. Silverthorne is at the tail end of building the workforce housing neighborhood and is already discussing new ideas for development because of an ongoing shortage of workforce housing in the county.

The Silverthorne Town Council threw out ideas for affordable housing solutions at its work session Wednesday, June 9, amid countywide conversations about an increasingly scarce supply of affordable workforce housing.
Town Manager Ryan Hyland said that while Summit County, Frisco and Breckenridge were considering an emergency declaration, there was concern about whether such a declaration would be appropriate. He said the county is considering drafting a proclamation instead to raise awareness about the problem Summit County is experiencing. ....
