Summit County to celebrate Bike to Work Day on Wednesday

Summit County government is inviting the community to participate in Bike to Work Day on Wednesday, June 23.
The event is an annual celebration to support physical activity for all levels and abilities of cyclists. Community members are encouraged to travel by bike wherever they’re headed be it work, errands, to drop kids at day care or just for fun.
Participants who ditch the car in favor of a bicycle can find free breakfast and activities all around the county. Cyclists are welcome to stop by any of the six aid stations from 7:30-10:30 a.m. for a light breakfast, bike tuneup, bike bingo and coloring contest: ....

Silverthorne Art Stroll provides a creative outlet during pandemic

The sound of a film camera’s shutter was captivating for Amy Marie Dlubac
. Her father put his old 35-millimeter Canon single-lens reflex camera in her hand while she was in middle school and lit a passion in her. That led to doing the yearbook at school and studying photography and photojournalism at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Now, Dlubac is one of the artists appearing at the Silverthorne Art Stroll, which was previously known as Stroll Along the Blue. The First Friday event once again combines visual and auditory arts on the Blue River Trail between the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center and the underpass by Chipotle Mexican Grill from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 7. It’s also the time to turn in bingo cards from April’s First Friday for the chance to win free drinks for a year. ....

As restrictions ease, the wedding industry hopes for a busy summer

When the COVID-19 shutdown hit last March, weddings were postponed, canceled or significantly downsized. But vaccination efforts coupled with declining case numbers are making the larger gatherings associated with weddings more of a possibility heading into the summer, and wedding venues, planners and caterers are finally starting to book up.
The Silverthorne Pavilion is almost fully booked with weekend dates for weddings this summer, according to Silverthorne Arts and Culture Manager Sydney Schwab. Schwab said many of the weddings were rescheduled from last summer, as the pavilion has had to postpone or cancel more than 100 so far due to the pandemic. Other bookings have come from couples changing their venue from a smaller location to the pavilion to increase the capacity of their wedding. ....

Summit Rotary's inaugural Adopt an Angel program serves 259 families

Nearly 600 children received early Christmas presents this year thanks to the Summit Rotary Club’s Adopt An Angel program.
Winter clothing and toys were gifted to 567 children in 259 families. Families receiving gifts parked in a loop around the Silverthorne Pavilion, and Rotarians placed the gifts into their car trunks. Some families opted for deliveries, and the club traveled as far as Fairplay to bring gifts.
A number of nonprofits, including the Family & Intercultural Resource Center, and other local organizations helped with the program. The generous gifting from the Summit County community helped to serve 180 more children than in 2019, and the total load filled up two furniture trucks with goodies. ....
