Shannon, Staci Kent plead not guilty to felonies related to alleged corpse abuse

Former Lake County Coroner Shannon Lee Kent and his wife, Staci Dawn Kent, of Leadville, pleaded not guilty during a hearing at the Summit County Justice Center on Monday, May 17, to charges related to alleged tampering with a deceased human body.
The Kents, both 45 years old, were arrested in February after officers with the Silverthorne Police Department discovered a badly decaying body that had been left in their Silverthorne funeral home for several months. The deceased was later identified by the Summit County Coroner’s Office as 42-year-old Victor Akubuo, who died in a car crash in Park County on July 30, 2020. ....

Lake County coroner turns in resignation letter

Shannon Kent, Lake County’s elected coroner who is facing felony charges of perjury and tampering with a deceased human body, and the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation, submitted a resignation letter to the county last Friday.
At a Lake County Board of County Commissioners meeting Monday afternoon, Commissioner Kayla Marcella said Kent submitted his resignation effective as of Aug. 1, or when an incumbent is seated in the position.
“At this time, the (board of county commissioners) would like to formally recognize the resignation and invite anyone that feels they can fill that vacancy to submit a letter of interest,” Marcella said. ....

A Kansas man is facing felony assault and vehicular eluding charges after allegedly hitting two Frisco police officers with a car and fleeing, according to police records.
Russ Ashley, 43, was arrested last month following an ordinary traffic stop that turned violent off Frisco Main Street. Just after midnight on March 19, Frisco officers initiated a traffic stop after noticing a Ford Mustang swerve into another lane without signaling while traveling south on Colorado Highway 9. According to the report, the driver continued south on the highway at a slow speed and eventually turned onto Main Street where he pulled into an empty parking spot west of Seventh Avenue. ....
