That would have eliminated millions of dollars in supplemental Medicaid funding each year.
But Gateway kept its status under Illinois Senate Bill 1530, which was signed into law April 2 by Gov. J.B. Pritzker. It amended the Illinois Public Aid Code with a clause that didn t mention Gateway by name, but effectively added it to a list of hospitals allowed to continue in the state s safety-net program, despite not meeting some requirements.
Gateway CEO Bob Moore described the legislation as something of a lifesaver.
If we got out of the safety-net program, this hospital would not be viable, he said Tuesday. We get about $8 million a year in funding from it. ....

A 21-year-old man from Red Bud voluntarily dismissed his defamation lawsuit against a local vigilante group that accused him of communicating online with a woman he thought was a 14-year-old girl with the intent of sexual exploitation, according to a press release.
Adrian Collins sought in excess of $50,000 for compensatory damages and in excess of $50,000 for punitive damages because he allegedly lost his job at Red Bud Regional Hospital after KTS Predator Hunters and its leader, Kyle Swanson, posted publicly the communications he had with the supposed social media profile of a 14-year-old, according to media reports.
“The way Adrian chatted with our fake profile of a 14-year-old girl sounded like he was trying to groom her by offering money and telling her not to tell anyone,” Swanson told the ....

A Jacksonville attorney says a “predator-hunting” group will continue its work while fighting a lawsuit accusing it of defaming a Red Bud man.
A Randolph County judge denied a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which contends a “predator-hunting” group and its leader wrongly defamed him on Facebook by accusing him of “grooming” a 14-year-old girl for sex.
Ben Grohmann, attorney for plaintiff Adrian Collins, had filed a motion for voluntary dismissal on Dec. 3, but that motion was withdrawn at a hearing Thursday before Associate Judge Gene Gross. ....
