Kiwi who quarantined in his car claims cops treated him like 'the Christchurch mosque shooter'

A Kiwi mountain man who claimed police tried to make him look as bad as the Christchurch mosque shooter for staying in his car during lockdown restrictions has had his conviction overturned on appeal.
Fraser Wright Maddigan, 45, was spoken to three times by New Zealand police after leaving his Christchurch home and driving 600km to Te Anau, where he was arrested during a lockdown.
Maddigan was fined $1000 and also ordered to pay $130 court costs on April 2, 2020, for breaching the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act by deciding to self-isolate in his Honda Civic during a state of emergency.
New Zealand police arrested a mountain man who claimed to be self-isolating in his car during a Covid lockdown. Although he was convicted and fined, the man won his appeal ....

Tsunami advisory warning enough to move ships, but not close beaches

The official tsunami warnings came from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), he said.
“The official warning for Taranaki was a beach and marine threat, where the advice was for people to stay off the beach and out of the water due to the potential for strong and unusual currents.

Taranaki Civil Defence acting regional manager Todd Velvin said it was difficult to police people heading to beaches but overall he was happy with the public s response to the tsunami warnings.
“The tsunami warning did not give Civil Defence the authority to stop people going to the beach. We could only advise people not to.” ....

Coastal hazards such as erosion and flooding pose a very real risk to coastal communities around TÄmaki Makaurau/ Auckland. The impacts of coastal erosion and other coastal hazards will be influenced by our changing climate, including the effects of sea-level rise, and the decisions we make as TÄmaki Makaurau continues to grow.
To better understand the potential impacts of coastal erosion, Auckland Council has released a new report, â
Predicting Aucklandâs Exposure to Coastal Instability and Erosionâ that assesses the areas of Auckland that are susceptible to coastal erosion and cliff instability. The report explains the methodology used in a scientific study to estimate erosion rates for Aucklandâs beaches and cliffs and includes regional-scale maps that identify which of Aucklandâs coastal areas may be susceptible to coastal erosion and instability over a range of time periods. ....
