The Taipei Department of Education plans to extend the break between the second and third lesson which is known as the “big break” from 10 to 30 minutes for elementary-school students, but is to leave schools the flexibility to decide whether to implement it.
This practice is beneficial to the physical and mental health of students.
A 30-minute break between the second and the third lesson has been in place for almost 10 years at the elementary school where I work, and students and teachers have offered positive feedback about the policy.

Prosecutors decide not to charge two in 2017 hack case

Prosecutors have decided not to press charges against two military officers who in 2017 hacked into a Ministry of National Defense Web site to test the military’s counter-cyberattack capabilities, the ministry said yesterday.
The Information Communication and Electronic Warfare Office said in a statement that it had asked the officers to try to hack the Web site as part of a drill to detect loopholes in the ministry’s firewall.
The statement came after the Chinese-language United Daily News yesterday reported that one of the officers had left the military following an investigation into the breach. ....

Taipei, Feb. 7 (CNA) Prosecutors recently decided not to press charges against two military officers, who hacked into the defense ministry s website in 2017, as they had been instructed to do so to test the military s counter cyber attack capabilities, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said Sunday.
In a statement, the MND s Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command said it had asked the two officers to try to hack the website, as part of a regular drill to detect loopholes in the ministry s firewall. ....

Squirrels were found to be behind damage to more than 100 electric cables installed for a Lantern Festival in Changhua County’s Yuanlin City (員林), police said on Wednesday, adding that it had originally suspected that people had severed the cables.
The Yuanlin City Government earlier this week discovered that many cables in a local park the site of the festival scheduled to start next week had been damaged.
The Changhua Police Department on Tuesday sent investigators to identify the culprit of the alleged crime. ....
