NPP calls for probe of politicians failing to comply with CECC's priority groups

The government should investigate whether certain politicians have abused their privilege to be vaccinated ahead of the groups prioritized for vaccination by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), the New Power Party (NPP) said yesterday.
The party addressed the issue at a news conference after Executive Yuan political adviser Ting Yi-ming (丁怡銘), Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Huang Chao-shun (黃昭順) and Yunlin County Commissioner Chang Li-shan (張麗善) were accused of abusing their status to get themselves or family members vaccinated.

COVID-19: MOJ introduces measures to protect healthcare workers

The High Prosecutors’ Office has been tasked with the prosecution of a COVID-19 patient who on Monday allegedly stabbed three medical workers, Minister of Justice Tsai Ching-hsiang (蔡清祥) said on Wednesday.
The incident took place at about 7am at Taipei Medical University’s Shuang Ho Hospital when a 62-year-old male patient surnamed Hung (洪) allegedly used a fruit knife to attack three female nurses working at the isolation ward where he was receiving treatment.
Hung, who reportedly has a history of emotional instability, allegedly stabbed a 23-year-old surnamed Shih (施) in the abdomen, a 25-year-old surnamed Chen (陳) in the chest and right ....

New warrant is issued for former NSB officer Liu

An arrest warrant for former National Security Bureau (NSB) officer Liu Kuan-chun (劉冠軍) was issued on April 23, more than two decades after he left Taiwan in the wake of media reports accusing him of embezzling government funds, the bureau said on Thursday.
The warrant issued by the Taiwan High Prosecutors’ Office says that Liu, a former colonel who was director of the Cashiers’ Section, is accused of surrendering to the Chinese government and engaging in espionage operations.
The maximum penalty for both charges is death.
Liu traveled to China in September 2000 after media reports said that he allegedly embezzled about NT$190 million (US$6.81 million at the current exchange rate) of bureau funds allocated to secret government projects. ....

The investigation into the Weng Mao-chung (翁茂鍾) case would hold all judicial personnel involved accountable to the strictest interpretation of the law, Judicial Yuan President Hsu Tzong-li (許宗力) said yesterday, while pledging more action against misconduct to uphold the judiciary’s credibility.
