The latest enforcement update from ASIC has noted that court cases brought by the regulator in the six months to December last year under its why not litigate strategy netted almost $160 million in civil penalties.

In a statement, the regulator said it had gained civil penalties totalling $159.8 million in the six months from July to December 2020 as a result of its court actions.
This included ASIC’s two largest ever civil penalty outcomes – penalties totalling $57.5 million were imposed on two NAB subsidiaries for fees-for-no-service misconduct, and penalties totalling $75 million were imposed on OTC derivatives provider AGM Markets Pty Ltd and two of its authorised representatives for systemic unconscionable conduct, ASIC said. ....

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel is preparing for another tender to allocate more fifth generation (5G) mobile frequencies as soon as late 2021, aiming to boost the economy from new technologies while giving mobile operators a new revenue stream after years of steep declines.

Israel allocated three frequencies 700 MHz, 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz following an auction in 2019, and the Communications Ministry plans to offer ultra-fast broadband frequencies above 24 GHz late in 2021 or early 2022, Tal Elimelech, who heads the ministry’s 5G project, told Reuters. ....

Costs for retail fund investors in EU remain high, says regulator

LONDON (Reuters) - Retail investors in mutual funds pay costs that are 40% higher than big institutional investors pay, making it harder for the European Union to attract broader support for its capital market, the bloc’s securities regulator said on Wednesday.

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) said in its third annual report on the cost and performance of retail investment products that costs remain high and diminish returns for final investors.
“Retail clients pay on average around 40% more than institutional investors across asset classes,” ESMA said in its report, which made no recommendations for any regulatory action. ....
