Songsong Island in Kedah is set to undergo upgrading works to turn it into a world-class tourism attraction. Bernama
Its beautiful and pristine nature makes Songsong Island in Kedah one of the destinations Tourism Malaysia will be putting more focus on to spur tourism activities.
Realising the potential of the small uninhabited island, Kedah Tourism manager Nor Azlan Fitri Abd Razak said Tourism Malaysia will work together with the Yan District Council (MDY) to upgrade the facilities there.
“We will carry out upgrading works on basic facilities such as toilets and surau at Songsong Island soon. These are expected to be completed by year’s end. ....

The problem with plastic waste just got more complicated and so did the effort to stanch its flow into the world’s oceans.
Rivers are the primary conduits for plastic waste to the seas. In 2017, two separate groups of scientists concluded that 90 percent of river-borne plastic waste that flushes into the oceans is conveyed by just a handful of large, continental rivers, including the Nile, Amazon, and Yangtze, the world’s three longest rivers. Cleaning up those rivers 10 rivers were named in one study and 20 in the other could go a long way toward solving the problem, experts agreed. ....

Malaysia is dangerously close to losing what may be its most important ancient site unless somebody with influence comes to its defence.
The Sungai Batu Archaeological Complex in Kedah has seen generations come and go but the current one will be the one that seals its fate.
The four-square-kilometre site is buried under an oil palm plantation near Sungai Petani, in which since 2009 researchers have discovered astounding relics that are more than 2,000 years old: the handiwork of a mysterious, unrecorded civilisation.
Older than both Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Borobudur in Indonesia, which were built in the ninth and 12th centuries respectively,the site was declared the oldest civilisation in Southeast Asia by five archaeological bodies representing the world’s five major civilisations, namely Mesopotamia, Indus, Mesoamerica, China, and Greece-Rome ....
