And Oxfordshire County Council is set to follow suit under plans for the first smoke-free county, with employers expected to asked to enforce smoke-free spaces outside shops, offices and factories to help staff kick their habit.
A seventh local authority, Gateshead Council, does not have an official policy on smoking outdoors, but all the licences it grants to venues state that pavement cafes must be smoke-free, reported the Guardian.

Oxfordshire to become first 'smoke-free' county in England

Oxfordshire is set become the first county in England to ban smoking outdoors as the Government's roadmap out of lockdown comes to an end.
The county, which has unveiled plans to be the first region in the country to go smoke-free by the year 2025, will crack down on smoking later this month, with outdoor dining areas and workplace break spots as the top targets to go smoke-free.
The ban, which has been described as a 'long game' to change smoking culture, aims to prevent deaths from diseases linked to tobacco.
The priorities for the county's smoking strategy this year include creating more spaces where people feel 'empowered' not to smoke.

English county set to introduce nation's first outdoor smoking ban

As reported by the Oxford Mail, a plan agreed by public health officials in February 2020 is now finally 'underway'.
The area's strategy to tackle smoking outdoors includes creating more spaces where inhabitants feel 'empowered' not to smoke.
As part of the plan, officials would encourage employers to stop people smoking outside of workplaces or by introducing smoke-free areas in new pavement dining areas, the Oxford Mail reported.
Speaking last week, Oxfordshire's public health director, Ansaf Azhar, said the new strategy to change smoking culture was a "long game", with the aim that it will preventing deaths from illnesses linked to tobacco.
