St. Louis Co. Funds Projects To Combat Aquatic Invasive Species


It might seem strange to be thinking about open water and Aquatic Invasive Species this time of year - especially with the brutally cold weather we ve been having - but, St. Louis County Board members are doing just that.  At a recent meeting, the county board voted to approve funding for eight projects that will help in the fight against Aquatic Invasive Species - channeling off of funding available from the State of Minnesota.
In total, $654,530 will be distributed to the different programs.  Each of the eight grant projects are designed to both prevent the introduction of and limit the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species in the lakes and rivers throughout St. Louis County. ....

St. Louis County Board approves 8 projects to combat aquatic invasive species
The program, established in 2014 by the Minnesota Legislature to distribute $10 million statewide annually, will dole out $654,000 in St. Louis County in 2021, on par with other years.

The St. Louis County Board approved the distribution of $654,530 of state funds earlier this week for eight projects aimed at preventing the introduction and limiting the spread of aquatic invasive species in lakes and rivers in St. Louis County.
Commissioners unanimously approved the list of projects during their meeting Tuesday in Virginia. In 2020, the county distributed $661,962 in grants, and $670,000 the year before that. ....
