“There’s a very real chance of people falling short financially when they retire,” she said.
“The likely scenario for many is that their super fund might be enough to ‘scrape by’ but it won’t allow them to enjoy the golden years in the way they had planned.
“Often people don’t realise just how much they’ll need in order to fund their ideal retirement.”
Pointing to the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) Retirement Standard data, Finder said the average man could only live for 3.5 years off their super, and only 2.8 years for women.
“Women have saved only 79% of the amount of their male counterparts by the time they reach retirement – often feeling the effects of the gender pay gap and time out of the workforce to perform caregiver duties,” Banney said. ....

The Fair Work Ombudsman has commenced legal action in the Federal Circuit Court against the operators of two Subway outlets in Adelaide.
Facing court are Hutt Nominees Pty Ltd, which is the franchisee of the Subway outlet on Jetty Road in Glenelg, and McNeill Investments Pty Ltd, which is the franchisee of the Subway outlet in the Bayside Village Shopping Centre in Glenelg. Also facing court is Adelaide man Jason Matthew Hood, who is a director of both companies.
The regulator investigated after receiving requests for assistance from two former employees of Hutt Nominees and one former employee of McNeill Investments. ....

Urgent action must be taken to arrest the gender gap in super balances, according to Industry Super Australia.
Figures show that women of all ages in the electorate of Capricornia can expect to have 40 per cent less super than men and retire with less than half that of men, while in Flynn women retire with a third less than men.
Women in Capricornia on the cusp of retirement have a median super balance of just $113,600, while in Flynn it’s $121,500 – well below the $545,000 needed for a comfortable retirement.
The ISA said those figures highlighted the need to lift the super rate as legislated from 9.5 per cent to 12 per cent. ....
