The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce held its 2021 Small Business Awards May 13 at the West Monroe Convention Center to honor leaders in the business community. 
We are proud to recognize these outstanding businesses as true community champions, Amanda Hatten Edge, Chairman of the WMWO Chamber, said in a news release. In a year marked with hurricanes, natural disaster, and pandemic our business community has risen to the innovative challenge.  
Dr. Terry King, owner of King Springs, received the 2021 Innovator of the Year Award. In 1975, King and Dr. Noel Mills invented the cardiac umbrella to close holes in the heart without surgery. On May 20, the Akron/Canton affiliate of Ohio University’s Ebony Bobcat Network will host a virtual celebration commemorating the 170th anniversary of Sojourner Truth’s most famous speech widely known as “Ain’t I a Woman” at the Women’s Rights Convention held in Akron, Ohio.

Apr. 16 Lanes of Highway 114 near the Texas Motor Speedway were closed on Friday morning after a woman was killed and three men were injured in a crash involving an 18-wheeler, a pickup truck and another vehicle, authorities said.
Of those injured, two had serious injuries and one had minor injuries, according to MedStar.
The identity of the woman wasn t immediately released. She was in her 40s, police said.
The Fort Worth Police Department said in a tweet around 10:35 a.m. that all eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway were closed at Three Wide Drive due to a fatality crash. Drivers should expect lengthy delays, police said, and if possible find an alternate route. ....
