January 22, 2021 Friendly’s, the Massachusetts-based chain known for its towering ice cream sundaes, has a new owner and a couple of new ice cream flavors. On Tuesday, the company announced that it had been acquired by Amici Partners Group, a Connecticut-based investor group with a portfolio that includes Red Mango, Souper Salad, Humble Donut Co., and other fast-casual businesses. In a press release, Amici Partners indicated that it plans to keep the 130 corporate-owned and franchised Friendly’s locations open while also adding new ice cream flavors and bringing back customer favorites. A representative for Friendly’s shared that there are currently two new flavors finalized. First up: Superman, a swirl of red, yellow, and blue fruit punch-flavored ice cream that will make its debut on March 15. This summer, Friendly’s will also launch Summer Breeze, featuring lemon ice cream with chunks of lemon candy and swirls of graham cracker. ....
