Surat: With an eye on the looming third wave of Covid-19, the government will begin the serological survey in the city and rural areas in the next week. Currently, the health department employees are being trained to carry out the survey.
In each city and rural areas of the district 1850 samples will be collected. Samples of randomly selected participants will be collected at 50 centres in city and rural areas. Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) is training and supervising the survey in the city. In the rural areas of Surat district, Government Medical College (GMC) is supervising the survey. ....

Doc caught for fake Covid positive report | Surat News

SURAT: A medical officer of Surat Municipal Corporation-run (SMC) Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500 for providing a positive Covid-19 report to a man without any tests.
The complainant wanted a Covid positive report to evade court hearing as he was supposed to remain present in person. He knew the accused Dr Dipak Gadhia for the past few months.
Dr Gadhia had demanded Rs 6,000, of which he accepted Rs 2,500 earlier. But he was caught taking another Rs 2,500 at the entry gate of SMIMER hospital. An MBBS from Ahmedabad-based BJ Medical College and serving in government for 26 years, Dr Gadhia provided a positive Covid-19 rapid antigen report of Crystal Laboratory sans test. ....

SURAT: What Covid-19 took, humanity refilled during the calamity and some of the finest qualities of humankind was witnessed as the pandemic peaked to demonic heights. This was when medical experts of every field rushed in offer their services selflessly to help the poor and needy patients at government hospitals.
Around 60 surgeons and super specialists have been taking a couple of hours off daily from their scheduled private practices to dedicate their services in New Civil Hospital (NCH), Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) and Samras Hostel.
While already being preoccupied with their responsibilities in different private hospitals, these ‘saviours’ wanted to do a little extra by serving at the public hospitals. The endeavour didn’t end with the ebbing tide of the second wave, but have assured of continuing to support the government hospital even if another wave happens to hit. ....
