Doc caught for fake Covid positive report | Surat News

SURAT: A medical officer of Surat Municipal Corporation-run (SMC) Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500 for providing a positive Covid-19 report to a man without any tests.
The complainant wanted a Covid positive report to evade court hearing as he was supposed to remain present in person. He knew the accused Dr Dipak Gadhia for the past few months.
Dr Gadhia had demanded Rs 6,000, of which he accepted Rs 2,500 earlier. But he was caught taking another Rs 2,500 at the entry gate of SMIMER hospital. An MBBS from Ahmedabad-based BJ Medical College and serving in government for 26 years, Dr Gadhia provided a positive Covid-19 rapid antigen report of Crystal Laboratory sans test. ....

Mucormycosis spreading in Surat | Surat News

In NCH 57 patients are under treatment while in SMIMER, 26 patients are under treatment.
Seven patients’ surgeries were done for mucormycosis, while six were operated in SMIMER. In both the hospitals, separate wards have been created for MM patients.
At NCH, separate wards for men and women with 40 beds each have been set up with oxygen support and ventilators on standby.
NCH has requested the government to supply 2,000 amphotericin-B injections while SMC has also placed request for this drug which is the only treatment for the fungus.
“Due to heavy use of steroids in the treatment of Covid-19 patients, especially those with diabetes, many are developing MM. SMC is trying to ensure that these patients get proper treatment at government hospitals,” said a senior SMC official. ....
