Jasper and Newton Counties are among five Texas counties that are part of a Hurricane Laura Disaster Declaration from President Donald Trump. Also included in the federal disaster area were Galveston, Jefferson, and Orange Counties.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has released a statement thanking President Trump for the federal declaration and the assistance that it will bring to the affected counties.
Hurricane Laura was a category 4 storm when she made landfall at Cameron Parish in August and then trudged northward up the east side of the Sabine River through Cameron, Calcasieu, Beauregard, Vernon, and Sabine Parishes.
The western eyewall of the hurricane affected the Bolivar Peninsula of Galveston County, as well as all of Orange, Jefferson, Newton, and Jasper Counties. ....
