Oldham Council is continuing its bid to create a cleaner and greener borough, despite the coronavirus pandemic.
One thing coronavirus has shown is that there are solutions to the climate change emergency.
Carbon emissions fell dramatically in spring 2020 as people moved to working from home, with a huge improvement in air quality.
Lockdowns and social distancing restrictions have also meant more local residents have explored green spaces as they’ve had to stay local to get fresh air and exercise.
Later this year the UK will host COP26, the United Nations climate change conference.
The UK has always been a global leader on climate change, and many scientists believe that 2021 could be a critical year for action. ....

Oldham News | Main News | Work to begin on Eco Centre for Oldham

Work on building a state-of-the-art Eco Centre in Oldham is due to start in the summer.
Plans have been approved to develop a new office with sustainable energy solutions for the borough’s environmental services teams in Alexandra Park.
Oldham Council say the work is the first stage of plans to become the greenest borough in Greater Manchester.
Cllr Sean Fielding, Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said: “The new workspace will be a key component in the Eco Centre vision and we look forward to seeing it take shape and pave the way for further phases of the masterplan. ....
