Senate summons ex-NSITF bosses over alleged N84bn embezzlement

The Senate has summoned former managing directors of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund over alleged missing financial documents in the agency.
The former NSITF bosses are expected to appear before the Senate Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday.
The Chairman of SPAC, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, at the last meeting of his panel on Thursday, said 50 queries were issued against the NSITF officials by the office of the Auditor General for the Federation.
Urhoghide said the ex-NSITF bosses were being invited following the failure of the officials of the agency to respond to the queries of the AuGF regarding some alleged financial infractions. ....

Senate tackles NNPC over N443bn payment without approval

Senate Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday berated the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for paying N443bn without the National Assembly’s appropriation.
The chairman of the committee, Senator Mathew Urhoghide, has summoned the management of the NNPC to explain the expenditure it made without budgetary provision.
The committee took the decision based on the 2016 report of the Auditor-General for the Federation, which is currently being scrutinised.
The AuGF query to the NNPC read, “During the examination of subsidy records provided by the Federation Accounts and Allocation Committee, it was observed that the total subsidy paid during the year 2016 was N443,940,559,974.80. ....
