The surprise pronouncement immediately prompted questions about whether Baker should ease Massachusetts’ rules but also how he should do it, layering in potential new complications to what’s largely been a straightforward order. ....

Re “In reimagined police force, much would be changed” (Page A1, April 25): Boston should learn from Denver. For years, the Denver Police Department and the Mental Health Center of Denver have created and expanded partnerships between police and mental health workers that are mutually supportive. Among several innovations, MHCD social workers accompany police in their patrol cars, jointly responding to calls involving suspected mental health issues. Most of these calls ....

The Great Divide is an investigative series that explores educational inequality in Boston and statewide.
In the latest flashpoint within a far wider debate,
Wakefield residents on Tuesday voted to
keep the local high school’s Native American-themed logo by an 11-point margin, offering a nonbinding but public rebuke of the School Committee’s decision weeks earlier to eliminate the decades-old “Warrior” imagery.
Voters backed keeping the Native American mascot, 2,911 to 2,337, according to the town’s unofficial results. The “yes” votes accounted for more than 55 percent of the nearly 5,250 residents who cast a vote for the nonbinding ballot question — a substantial turnout in the 27,000-person town, where closer to ....

A Message from Chancellor Subbaswamy about Fall Operating Plans

April 22, 2021
Dear Campus Community,
As we prepare for a return to normal campus operations for the next academic year, which will include face-to-face instruction, full residence halls, and a complement of student events and activities, I am pleased to share the report of the Fall Planning Group, which will serve as a framework for our campus operational plan for the fall semester. The report offers a detailed operational guide and recommendations for re-establishing a robust living-learning environment that ensures the health and well-being of our campus community.
Our efforts will focus on offering students a full residential, in-person college experience in September safely. We will require all undergraduate and graduate students who wish to live or learn or conduct research on campus or access campus resources to be fully vaccinated prior to the beginning of the fall semester, on the basis of expected additional state, federal and legal guidance and vacci ....
