Virginia Passes Second Bill to Protect Wildlife Corridors

RICHMOND, Va. (February 24, 2021) The Virginia General Assembly yesterday passed critical legislation to protect wildlife corridors and help keep drivers safer. This bill, SB 1274, builds on the wildlife corridor legislation that passed last year, creating a comprehensive program to identify wildlife corridors, protect motorists from collisions with animals, and address barriers to wildlife movement.
The bill passed with strong bipartisan support.
SB 1274 directs key agencies to incorporate wildlife corridors and road crossings into their planning across Virginia.  This legislation builds on the successful wildlife corridor legislation passed last year which directed the Commonwealth to produce a Wildlife Corridor Action Plan (WCAP) to identify important wildlife corridors and road crossings. Virginia and Oklahoma join Washington, New York and Minnesota as states where lawmakers have proposed online privacy legislation this year. It is expected that lawmakers in other states will propose similar legislation in the coming weeks. As discussed in our prior posts, the fact the legislation has been proposed is not indicative of whether it has any chance of becoming law. Since lawmakers passed the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in 2018 numerous states have considered similar bills, but none of them has become law.
